Thomas Wisotzke

August 4, 1949 - December 7, 2024

Thomas "Wiz" Leo Wisotzke, age 75, passed away from glioblastoma brain cancer on December 7, 2024. The diagnosis was a heartbreaking shock to everyone who loved him, but he spent his last weeks with a positive outlook celebrating his life with friends and family by his side.

Wiz was born on August 4, 1949 in Eau Claire, WI; to Leo and Marie (Fleming) Wisotzke. He graduated from Eau Claire Memorial High School in 1967. At the time, he wanted to be a disc jockey for a rock and roll radio station. Instead, he went to Eau Claire Tech and joined the Army Reserve before moving to Minneapolis where he met Judy, the love of his life. Tom and Judy married on September 9, 1972 and started their family in 1976 with Joe and four years later, Sara.

Tom graduated from University of Wisconsin - Stout and became a Marketing and Business Education teacher at Craig High School in Janesville WI. He spent 32 years as the "chief" and loved helping DECA students figure out their next path beyond high school. He was the first-ever girls' softball coach at Craig H.S. and without knowing it - influenced the beginning of girl's athletics in 1977. Many students have reached out over the years thanking Mr. Wisotzke for his witty one-liners, cool spirit, and genuine care for each and every student.

Wiz played softball and played hard for 50 years until he transitioned to an umpire with an enthusiastic "Steee-rike!" He's played thousands of games and has piled up trophies for racquetball, bowling, and softball. Travel, music, and sports were other big parts of his life. Family road trips to Florida often left us with laughable stories that could compare to any Griswald family vacation. Tom was always on the go with exciting trips to Vegas, countless Brewers games, Harley rides, and hangouts with his golf, happy hour, and coffee buddies. He loved the energy at Milwaukee Summerfest and the many concerts and festivals he attended.

Underneath it all, none of this mattered more to him than his family. The center of his world was Judy and his family was his pride and joy.

Tom is survived by his wife, Judy; his children, Joe (Anna) Wisotzke and Sara (Scott) Schyvinck; his grandchildren: Max Wisotzke, Braydon, Jack, and Elle Schyvinck. His siblings, Janice (Ray) Frye, Lori (Mike) Hestiken. Preceded in death by his parents; and his sister, JoAnn (Doug) Smith.

A private funeral will be held at First Lutheran Church, followed by a public celebration of life on December 12, 2024 from 1:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. at SNEAKERS BAR in Janesville, WI. Join Tom and his family to remember this one-of-a-kind man. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Agrace Hospice. SCHNEIDER FUNERAL DIRECTORS is assisting his family. So very sorry to hear of another loss of a classmate.  But what an example of another great from the class of 1967!  It sounds like he lived a wonderful life and gave much to his community students and family.   R.I.P
