In Memory

Ruth Solum

Ruth Ann Solum, age 74, of Cottage Grove, passed away on Wednesday, July 19, 2023, at Drumlin Reserve. She was born on Jan. 12, 1949, in Eau Claire, the daughter of Erling and Margaret (Colbert) Solum.

Ruth’s faith, her love for God and her fellowship with her friends and family were what was most important to her and what shaped her life. Ruthie, as she was known to her friends and family, was also known for always having a smile on her face and a great sense of humor. Ruth crafted her own greeting cards and loved writing to her many friends and family.

Ruth graduated from Eau Claire Memorial High School in Eau Claire and moved to Madison shortly thereafter. She treasured living with her roommates for several years until each moved to new locations. However, Ruth kept in close contact with them, and many others until near the end.

Ruth worked for many years for the State of Wisconsin in Madison as an administrative assistant until retiring.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents; and sister, Ethel “Missy” Solum.

A funeral service will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, at 12 noon on Thursday, July 27, 2023. Burial will take place at Rest Haven Cemetery at a later date. A visitation will be held at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Thursday.

Ruth's friends wish to thank the caring staff at Drumlin Reserve in Cottage Grove, along with Agrace HospiceCare for their care and compassion. Online condolences may be made at www.gundersonfh.com.

I did not know Ruth, but her loss is, once again, a loss for all of us.  Each passing of a classmate depreciates all of us. It makes us realize, and appreciate, that life is both precious and finite. It reminds us that, in a sense, we are, we must be, each other's keeper.
God bless you, Ruth. Rest in peace my sister.

Ruthie was one of the sweetest classmates I had the privilege of knowing. She always had something good to say about everyone. May our lord rap his loving arms around her, may his perpetual shine upon her and grant her his peace. God bless you my friend.

I do remember Ruth from high school. I wish I had known her better. A loss of another classmate is always sad and makes us humble  for the life we still have. Rest in peace gracious lady.

I went to grade school with Ruth Solum when she was always shy and quiet - even more than me! I always wondered what happened to her. I hope her life was happy and fulfilling.

I remember Ruth as a kind and faith filled person. It probably wasn't easy during the 60's in Madison to live the lifestyle of dedication to her friends, family and co-workers.
